Friday morning, Week 9, and the board is still soft in the places that matter: injury reports not yet final, a quarterback making his first career-relevant start, and a kickoff time that's going to mess with two teams' internal clocks before the ball is even snapped. This is the fun part of the week for me. Nothing's locked yet. Everything's still a question.

So here's what's actually on my desk this morning, before any of it is a play. The Read, not a tip.

Is Myles Garrett Playing Sunday Against Washington?

The reporting out of the league says Garrett is on track to be activated off injured reserve for the Rams' trip to Washington, after arthroscopic knee surgery in mid-September kept him out since Week 1. He's practiced this week. Sean McVay still hasn't put a hard number on his snap share, and that's the part I'm actually watching, not whether he suits up.

A pass rusher this good coming back on a pitch count is a different animal than the one the Rams traded two draft picks and Jared Verse to get. If Friday's injury report comes back without a limitation and the word out of Rams camp is real rotational snaps, not a token series or two, that's when the Washington defensive number starts to look wrong on paper. Not there yet. Watching the practice report closely.

Will Shedeur Sanders Start for the Browns Against the Saints?

Confirmed: Sanders gets his first start of the season Sunday in New Orleans with Deshaun Watson still in the concussion protocol. Ten weeks of waiting, one opportunity, and a defense in New Orleans that hasn't exactly been feasting this year.

First starts for young quarterbacks are a classic spot where the market can lag the reality, good or bad. I want to see how Todd Monken scripts the first series, whether Sanders is getting easy completions to build rhythm or getting thrown into obvious passing downs right away. That tells me more than any box score from his college days ever could.

Bengals-Falcons in Madrid: An Early Kickoff That Actually Matters

A 9:30 a.m. ET start is a real mechanism, not a footnote. Both teams traveled across an ocean, routines got blown up, and warmups start when some bettors are still pouring coffee. Burrow's out there enjoying the art scene, which is nice for him, but I care more about how Cincinnati's offensive line handles a body clock that says it should still be asleep. International games have a history of sluggish starts. I'm watching the first quarter, not the headline.

Jeffery Simmons Debuts for the Bears

Chicago made a move before the deadline to add Simmons up front, and he could be in the lineup Sunday night against Tampa Bay. A new piece in a run-stopping front always needs a week or two to actually fit. I want Friday's practice report on his reps before I treat this as a real defensive upgrade and not just a name change.

The One I Lean On

If I had to pick the single storyline most likely to move my own number by Sunday, it's Garrett. A healthy, real-snap version of that pass rush changes the math on Washington's protection in a way none of these other stories do yet. That's a lean, not a play. Nothing has cleared my number this morning, and I'm not going to dress up a hunch as an edge just because the name is good.

This is NFL football for adults: entertainment with real variance, 21+ where it's legal, and if the chase ever feels bigger than the fun, 1-800-GAMBLER is there. I'll have a cleaner read once the Saturday injury reports land. You know where to find me.
