Two things happened overnight that reshape the rest of this WNBA postseason: Indiana forced a Game 3 in Las Vegas with a 99-89 win behind a Caitlin Clark line that had never existed before in playoff history, and the top-seeded Lynx got swept out of the first round by the No. 8 seed Liberty. If you are scanning the WNBA betting news today for the item that actually changes a series, it is the first one. The Fever are alive, and they are alive with their point guard playing the best basketball of her postseason life.
Clark finished with 27 points and 15 assists. The piece of it that belongs in a display case: she became the first player in league history to produce a points-assists double-double in the first half of a playoff game. Not the game. The half. That is not a hot shooting night you regress away on a spreadsheet, it is a guard controlling every possession in a building that was shaking.
Did the No. 1 seed Lynx really get swept in the first round?
They did, and the history is brutal. Minnesota is the first No. 1 seed in league history to get swept in its opening series, and it is the third straight year the season has ended in a way that stings. Cheryl Reeve's own read afterward, that this group does not quite have the right group, is the most honest thing any coach said all night and the single loudest tell for the offseason. When the coach of a 1 seed talks about roster construction instead of shot variance, believe her. Roster moves are coming.
checked the almanac: a 1 seed going out to an 8 is rare air across basketball, the 2007 Warriors over the Mavericks and the 2023 Heat over the Bucks are the parallels everybody reaches for, and neither of those was a sweep in a best-of-three. New York just did it in two games.

What Game 3 between the Fever and Aces sets up
The schedule takes it back to Las Vegas on Thursday at 9:00 PM ET, Indiana at the Aces, winner moves on. Vegas gets the building back, which is the cleanest thing they have going for them right now. A'ja Wilson was hit with a technical late in Game 2 after confronting a fan she said stepped toward her and pointed at her, and she had to be restrained by teammates. I am not going to pretend that is a basketball stat. But a decisive game on short turnaround with that as the emotional backdrop is a real variable, and I would rather name it than dress it up as something measurable.
Today's slate gives us two more: Atlanta at Washington at 7:10 PM ET and Golden State at Dallas at 9:00 PM ET. Nothing on my board cleared this morning, so I am not going to invent a side to have something to say. Small edges over and over, no heroics, and the patience to sit on a night when the numbers do not offer one.
Elsewhere on the wire, the 2027 recruiting cycle keeps moving: South Carolina hosts 5-star center Zaniya Johnson for a visit this weekend, and Finley Parcher, the No. 21 prospect in the 2027 SC Next 100, committed to UCLA out of Lynden High School in Washington.
What I'm watching
Whether anything follows Wilson's technical from Game 2, how Las Vegas answers the Clark ball-screen coverage that got shredded for 15 assists, and whatever Minnesota says out loud in the next week about that roster. Bet for entertainment, keep it inside what a bad night can cost you, 21+ where legal.
