Tuesday in the NFL is the quiet day, and quiet days are when the soft numbers hide. Looking at NFL odds today, I have eight games where my price and the market price disagree, and exactly zero of them have cleared yet, because Tuesday numbers are drawn before anybody knows who practiced. That is not pessimism. That is the calendar.
So this is the radar, not the ticket.
What I'm eyeing on the NFL board
- Cardinals at Giants, Giants ML offered -105. My number says -127, roughly 22 cents of daylight, the widest gap I carry. The Odell Beckham Jr. release broke this morning and it is real news for a fan base, but it is not what my model is chewing on. What turns it into a play: the price still sitting near even money after the midweek injury report.
- Falcons at Saints, Saints -148 against my -171. Atlanta's quarterback room is the whole story. The word out of Atlanta is that Tua Tagovailoa is not fully past the oblique and is settling into the backup job behind Michael Penix Jr. A less than 100% emergency option lowers a team's floor, and floors matter in road division games. What turns it into a play: Atlanta's practice participation Wednesday and Thursday.
- Packers at Buccaneers, Tampa +162 against my +147. A dog price with a real path is my favorite kind of ticket, and this is the second-biggest gap I have. What turns it into a play: the number holding +155 or better once the reports land.
- Broncos at 49ers, San Francisco -142 against my -162. The reporting on George Kittle's 243-day climb back from a torn Achilles says he looks like himself again. My number leans on that being true. What turns it into a play: him listed without a designation.
- Colts at Commanders, Washington +166 against my +155. Worth noting Seattle only slipped a hair in the national rankings after losing in DC, which tells you the room graded the Commanders as a real problem. That is a tell.
| Spot | Offered | My fair | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Giants ML | -105 | -127 | 9.1% |
| Buccaneers ML | +162 | +147 | 6.0% |
| Saints ML | -148 | -171 | 5.8% |
| 49ers ML | -142 | -162 | 5.3% |
| Commanders ML | +166 | +155 | 4.1% |
The one I lean on
The Giants at -105. De-vigged out, my number wants -127, and the gap has been sitting there all day without anybody nudging it. A lean, not a play. Even money on a home team my model likes is the kind of small edge you collect over and over with no heroics, and if the injury report turns ugly I will drop it without a word of eulogy.
One honest caveat on all of it: Tuesday prices move for reasons Tuesday cannot see. Mind the gap like it owes you money, but do not marry it.
What I'm watching next is Thursday night, Steelers at Browns, the only game with a firm kickoff in front of me. Cincinnati cutting the returner who muffed the punt in that 30-27 Pittsburgh win tells you how thin the margins were.
checked the almanac: beckham's one-handed grab against dallas in november 2014 still gets replayed more than most touchdowns. some plays outlive the roster spot.
