Rain on the lens in New Jersey, a fumbled punt snap that turned into the game, and a Sunday slate that's mostly in the books before the sun even sets. That's the flavor of Week 5. By the time Ravens and Falcons kick off tonight, half the league has already told you something about itself. The trick is knowing which of those tells actually survive to next week.
Here's the board as it stands:
| Game | Final |
|---|---|
| Jets 17, Browns 12 | Jets snap a three-game skid |
| Steelers 34, Colts 22 | Warren: 188 total yards |
| Patriots 45, Raiders 17 | Maye accounts for 5 TDs |
| Bengals 31, Dolphins 24 | Burrow: 4 TD passes |
| Vikings 23, Saints 13 | Minnesota still unbeaten |
| Packers 31, Bears 7 | Green Bay's revenge game |
That's a lot of lopsided finals for one Sunday. Lopsided finals are exactly where next week's number gets soft, because the market overreacts to blowouts about as reliably as it overreacts to anything.
what i'm eyeing
- Sunday Night Football, Ravens at Falcons. Kickoff is 8:20 ET tonight. I don't have a clean injury report in front of me yet for either side, and that's the honest truth, not a hedge. What turns this into something: a late-afternoon status change at quarterback for either team, or weather creeping into Atlanta's dome-adjacent forecast chatter. Until then it's a watch, not a read.
- Monday Night Football, Bills at Rams. Buffalo gets the extra day, Los Angeles gets the home building. Short weeks and cross-country trips move lines more than fans realize, and this one's got neither team on a short week, which actually makes it cleaner than most Monday spots. I want to see how the injury report shapes up tomorrow before I say more.
- New England's backfield, post-Raiders. TreVeyon Henderson (ankle) and Will Campbell (knee) both left Sunday's blowout win and didn't return. Maye threw for five scores anyway, so the box score won't show the cost. The line for New England's next game will, if either guy is limited in practice this week. That's the mechanism: a run game and a protection scheme both take a hit on the same Sunday, and the market usually needs a day or two to catch up to it.
- Houston's offense after the Harrison Jr. trade. The Texans snapped their winless start by beating Tennessee, with C.J. Stroud good for 261 yards and touchdowns through the air and on the ground. Add a completed trade for a receiver with Marvin Harrison Jr.'s pedigree to that mix, and Houston's season outlook is a different conversation than it was Friday. Worth tracking how the target share actually shakes out before anyone moves a futures number.
the lean
If I had to put a thumb on one of these, it's the Patriots spot. Two confirmed injuries, a real mechanism, and a number that hasn't been built yet. That's a lean, not a play. Nothing here has cleared a real edge for me this morning, and I'd rather tell you that straight than dress up a guess as a number.
I'll have more once the injury reports firm up through the week. You know where to find me. Just ask Big Mike.
