The Week 4 inactive sheet landed early, and it carries the single piece of news that moves an NFL number more than any other: a starting quarterback is not playing. Jayden Daniels is out for Washington against Indianapolis in Sunday's 9:30 AM ET window, and that is the center of NFL line movement today. Everything else on the sheet is a rounding error by comparison.
Here is why the mechanism matters. Books do not price a quarterback the way they price a receiver. A missing WR1 gets shaved off a team total in halves and tenths. A missing QB1 gets a full re-rate, because the backup's number was already sitting in a drawer waiting for exactly this morning. Washington's offense was built around what Daniels does when the pocket collapses, and you cannot substitute that in from the sideline. The side should move toward Indianapolis and the total should come down. Both directions are the same story told twice.
The rest of the sheet is quieter but not empty. DeVonta Smith is set to sit for Philadelphia against the Rams in the 1:00 ET window, which thins out the Eagles' route tree against a defense that will happily double what is left. Ladd McConkey is listed as questionable for the Chargers in Seattle. And the reporting out of the Bay says Mike Evans is a game-time decision for San Francisco against Denver with a rib injury, with Evans himself saying he will give his best to play. Ribs are the cruelest questionable tag in football. A guy can be cleared and still not be himself when the first safety arrives.
The honest caveat: questionable is not out. Until the official list posts ninety minutes before kickoff, McConkey and Evans are rumor with a letter grade attached, and reacting to them is how you end up on the right side on the wrong night. Daniels is the only one here that is settled, and settled is what a market pays for.
What I am watching next is that ninety-minute window, and specifically whether Evans takes a real warmup or a ceremonial one. One tells you he plays. One tells you he dresses. Big difference, and the board will know before the broadcast does.
None of this is a reason to chase a number you do not like. Entertainment with variance, 21 and up where legal.
