Opening week has a specific feel to it. Rosters are new, rotations are guesses, and every injury report reads like it matters more than it does, until one actually does. Tuesday's slate is light, four games, and my board is empty of real plays. That's not a complaint. That's October.

Here's what's actually on my radar before anything clears.

76ers frontcourt depth

Backup center Ariel Hukporti tore his right Achilles, confirmed by MRI. Philadelphia's frontcourt was thin before this. Now it's thinner. The Sixers don't have a game on the board this week in front of me, so there's nothing to price tonight, but this is the kind of injury that bleeds into October and November minutes allocation and, eventually, into win total math. Watching how the rotation reshuffles before I touch anything Sixers-related.

Lakers at Warriors, 10pm ET

The marquee spot on tonight's slate. Two rosters that look different than they did in June, both still settling into shape on opening week. What would turn this into a play: a clean final injury report an hour out and lines that haven't already baked in the obvious. Early-season totals move fast once books see real pace in live action, so the number tonight is softer than it'll be in two weeks.

Nuggets at Jazz

Denver on the road at altitude-adjacent Utah in the early slate. Nothing dramatic in the wire today, but road games in the first week of a new season carry real conditioning variance. Watching how Denver's rotation looks in a true road back-to-back-adjacent spot before I trust anything here.

The Knicks' contract standoff

The reporting out of New York has ownership taking heat again over the Karl-Anthony Towns situation, this after a title and with a crowded Eastern Conference now carrying LeBron and Kawhi on new addresses. That's not a tonight story, the Knicks aren't on my board this week, but it's a futures story. Unresolved money situations have a way of showing up in October minutes and November chemistry. Checked the almanac: the Knicks' only other banner came in 1973, under Red Holzman. It took 53 years to get the next one. Worth remembering how rare this is before anyone treats a repeat as assumed.

The one I lean on

If I had to point at one thing, it's the 76ers situation. Real injury, real mechanism, a rotation now forced to lean harder on pieces that weren't built to carry that load. That's a lean, not a play. I want to see how Philadelphia's minutes actually shake out across a week or two before I'd put a number behind any East futures move.

Nothing on the board tonight clears a real edge, and I'd rather say that than dress up a shrug as a pick. The math says pass until something does.
