Aaron Judge is not on the Yankees' ALDS roster, and the New York Yankees odds movement that followed tells you exactly how the money read it: a real haircut on the side, nothing at all on the total. That split is the interesting part.
Here is what the board did. The Yankees opened -125 on the moneyline for the 8:00 PM ET opener at Tampa and sit -113 de-vigged. The Rays came back from +117 to +111. On the alternate, New York went from -1.5 +150 out to -1.5 +154, with Tampa's +1.5 tightening a touch from -173 to -170. Call it about two and a half points of win probability off the Bronx. The prediction venues are in the same neighborhood, Kalshi at 55 percent on the Yankees and Polymarket at 53.
Now the part nobody is talking about. The total never moved. It opened 6.5 and it is still 6.5, with the Over sliding from -118 to -109 and the Under from -110 to -104. That is not a market taking a side. That is vig tightening as first pitch gets closer. Strip out the best right-handed bat in the sport and the number for runs in this game does not flinch. That's a tell. The market is saying Tampa's Game 1 problem was never the one hitter, it was the arm opposite them.
That arm is Gerrit Cole, chosen over Carlos Rodon, and the reasoning making the rounds is about the ballpark playing kind to his spin. Fine. The quote I keep chewing on is the honest one about Judge: standing in the box and being intimidating is not enough if he is not 100 percent. Cold, correct, and it is why the side moved and the total did not.
My own number had New York closer to -120 here before the news and a shade under -113 after, so the price and I are roughly shaking hands. Nothing I want to chase at a tightened market. Small edges over and over, no heroics, and none of these are small enough to call an edge yet.
What I am watching: whether the total gets bid toward 7 once lineups post and we see who actually hits third. If it holds 6.5 through first pitch, the market has fully priced the absence and there is no late value left to mine. Keep it fun, 21+ where legal.
