The World Series is set, and I don't have a number in front of me yet for it. Brewers host the Rays in Milwaukee this weekend, Friday and Saturday both at 8 p.m. ET, and that's the only hard scheduling fact on my desk this morning. No market block has come across yet, so if you're hunting for a price on this series, it isn't posted where I can see it. That's not a shrug, that's just honesty about where the day stands.

What I do have is the storyline, and it's a good one. The reporting on Tampa Bay this morning leans hard into the same note it's leaned on all October: a small-market front office that keeps outrunning its budget. I don't have the granular breakdown of how they did it this time, roster construction, bullpen usage, whatever the mechanism, but the top line is the Rays are back in the World Series running on the cheap again, and that's a real story regardless of what any sportsbook does with it. Checked the almanac: this is the Rays' third World Series trip, after 2008 and 2020, and they're still chasing the first ring. The broadcast crowd is already calling Brewers-Rays appointment viewing, for whatever that's worth to you, and honestly, for once I agree with the hype guys.

The stranger story overnight is out of Milwaukee itself. Fans who bought into the Brewers' 2015 "Timeless Ticket" promotion, a thousand bucks for a promise tied to a future World Series run, are irritated about how World Series seating is being handled now that the promise has actually come due. The club is reportedly trying to make it right, admitting it fell short of the "spirit of the program." Eleven years is a long time to hold a ticket stub and hope. That's its own kind of variance.

Nothing else of consequence moved overnight. A league media note, Hawks-Prime Video streaming, MLB Network trimming a studio show, is noise for this piece, not signal.

What I'm watching: the first posted number on this series and which side of it the public leans on hardest once it's up. I'll have thoughts the minute there's something real to grade against. BOL.
